Change Can Make a Change for September is collected for Medical Benevolence. Medical Benevolence is making a difference in peoples lives in Kenya, Malawi and Haiti. Sets of operating lights have been purchased, but more are needed, so that operations can be done even when there is not daylight to allow the surgeon to see. In Haiti there is a goal of developing a Women and Children Center in the hospital.

LPC is on Social Media! Our Facebook and Instagram pages are up and running. By being active on platforms like Facebook and Instagram, we allow the community to see what we are up to and what we care about as a congregation. Please like us on Facebook, follow us on Instagram, and share our page and upcoming events with friends to let people know about our church!

The Christian Caring Ministry Team would welcome those who have a caring heart to join our team as we seek to share God's love with others by calls, cards, visits, flowers, muffins, and prayer.  Phone elder Lois Johnson at 843-705-6522 or email loisandlew@hotmail.com to ask questions or volunteer.

LPC Partners with Red Cedar Elementary School.  Our first event will be a Farmers Market on  Tuesday, October 2nd! Fifteen volunteers needed! Please join as we assist with a Farmers Market in the school parking lot. The time needed is 2:30-4:00pm but you may assist until 5:30pm. The goal is to provide 300 families with fresh produce. Go to BeaufortSchools.net; Search Volunteer, Select 2017 and fill out the form. Please contact bonniekborgelt@gmail.com once you have been vetted.

11th Annual LPC Golf Outing is set for October 24th at Pinecrest Golf Club. This year proceeds will benefit our GED program. The cost is $55. Tee times will start at 9am. Sign-up as a single to a foursome. It is an easy scramble/captain’s choice format. For questions or to sign-up contact Bob Lowry: jblowry99@gmail.com 843-227-1928.

LPC Cookbook Sales Resuming!  After each service during September, plan to purchase an LPC 2013 Cookbook for $15.  How else will you be able to create Sonia Abernathy’s recipe for heavenly Lemon Meringue Pie or Donna Reese’s Marinated Pork Tenderloins? Cookbooks make great gifts if you already have one!

We continually collect food to replenish local food pantries. Please place food items in the basket in the Narthex. Thank you!

Come Join the LPC Church Family. We are offering a three-week New Member and Inquirers’ Class in October for those interested in joining LPC. The classes will be held Sunday, October 7th, 14th and 21st from 4:00pm - 5:30pm. We will discuss what it means to be Presbyterian, the meaning of membership and faith, and get to know one another in small group discussions.  Contact the church office by October 3rd to sign-up. Childcare is available upon request.

COMING IN OCTOBER  –

What Presbyterians Believe and The Origins of These Beliefs

Save the Dates - October 3, 10, and 17 - 4PM to 5:30PM – Fellowship Hall

Was Jesus an actual human being, someone who “appeared to be human,” or something else?  How are the Bread and Wine the Body of Christ? How is truth discerned from the complexity of the Scriptures, especially when many people are proclaiming opposing interpretations to be “the truth?” These are the kinds of questions that will be addressed in the course “What Presbyterians Believe and The Origins of these Beliefs.”

The Presbyterian Church USA is guided by a rich diversity of confessions.  Each one was developed at a specific point in history in response to a precise question.  A study of the context in which the foundational beliefs of Christians, Protestants, Presbyterians and the Presbyterian Church (USA) have taken shape will be offered from 4:00 to 5:30 on three successive Wednesday afternoons; October 3, 10 and 17.  The class will be led by Rev. Dr. Robert Wallace, a retired minister of the PC(USA) who has conducted workshops on this subject for the Savannah and Central Florida presbyteries.  Bob attends worship regularly with us at LPC … come and get to know Bob!

DETAILS!

Sign-up sheets will be available in the Narthex.  Participants should have a copy of the PC(USA) Book of Confessions. Books can be downloaded in PDF format at no cost at https://www.pcusa.org/site_media/media/uploads/oga/pdf/boc2014.pdf -  (Free is good!).  In addition, a limited number of paperback copies are available from the church office (if you use one of these, please do not write notes in the books).  Books are also available for purchase through Amazon and the PC(USA) online bookstore!
