Sunday

Adult Bible Study Class: Current Offering – "Hymns We Love to Sing – a multi-media study of our favorite hymns and the stories and Scripture behind them."  Led by our Director of Adult Discipleship (and Doctor of Ministry candidate), Joe Crowley, 9:35am, Fellowship Hall.

The Sunday Contemporary Study is now using "The Wired Word.”   Each week, The Wired Word presents a different topic so as to spark discussion and to relate the messages contained in Scripture passages to current headlines ...

  • In the News discusses a current event to be analyzed in a biblical context each week.
  • The Big Questions provide a framework for the discussion. Use them as is, or revise to include your own commentary and perspectives.
  • Confronting the News with Scripture provides the substance of the lesson along with suggestions on how group members can apply Scripture passages covered that week to their daily lives.
  • Discussion Questions help you encourage additional in-depth exploration of the topic at hand.
  • Closing Prayer provides a meaningful conclusion to the week's discussion.

CIVILITY - a timely topic for a 3-week study beginning Wednesday, July 5 at 5:30pm.  See the July Newsletter for the class description. Please sign up on the chuch bulletin board by Sunday, July 2.

Starting in July – New Class!  Something Different!
Paul Behaving Badly: Was the Apostle a Racist, Chauvinist Jerk?

8-week study based on the book by E. Randolph Richards and Brandon J. O'Brien.

A provocative look at why some popular negative attitudes about Paul might be way

off base!  His detractors claim that he was arrogant and stubborn. He called his

opponents derogatory, racist names. He legitimized slavery and silenced women.

He was a moralistic, homophobic killjoy who imposed his narrow religious views on

others.  Or was he?  Join us as we explore the complicated persona and teachings of the apostle Paul.

Unpacking his personal history and cultural context, they show how Paul both offended Roman perspectives

and scandalized Jewish sensibilities. His vision of Christian faith was deeply disturbing to those in his day and

remains so in ours.  Paul behaved badly, but not just in the ways we might think. Take another look at Paul

and see why this "worst of sinners" dares to say, "Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ."

Tuesday/Wednesday Bible Study

Book of Acts, Part 1 (13 Weeks).

After Pentecost, and filled with the Holy Spirit, those who followed

Jesus experienced explosive growth.  The Book of Acts is a

fascinating account of the early disciples as they formed the

early church and spread the Good News of Jesus.  Luke, a doctor

who travelled along on some of these adventures, tells the story

in an interesting, accurate and reliable way.  They were committed

to preaching and living for Jesus.  They preached both love and doctrine as if BOTH mattered.

See how those who were called to be witnesses understood their mission to speak the truth in love.
